About OCAVER

 

The mission of OCAVER is to establish a network and platform among overseas Chinese vision and eye researchers (clinical and basic research), to share their research information and expertise, to promote communications and collaborations between vision and ophthalmic researchers in China and in the rest of the world.


OCAVER is a non-profit independent organization and cooperates with ARVO and the Chinese Ophthalmologic Society.


OCAVER was established at USA in 2006, about 300 Chinese vision and eye researchers have enrolled as the membership of OCAVER. The members include eye and vision researchers from all over  the world.


About OCAVER U.S.


OCAVER members have participated Four US-China events at ARVO  since its establishment . Numbers of famous scientists  such as Dr. Jialiang Zhao (Immediately Past President of Chinese ophthalmology society), Dr. Xiaoxin Li (President of Chinese ophthalmology society), Dr. Jian Ge (vice president of Chinese ophthalmology society), and Dr. Leon Ellwein (NEI associate director), Dr. Stephen Ryan (the President of Doheny eye institute), Dr. Paul Kaufman (the ARVO Executive Vice President) and Dr. David Hinton ( vice chairman of department of pathology at USC. Dr.Kanxing Zhao (Elected president of Chinese ophthalmology society) involved  in the event organization with the collaboration of OCAVER.

ARTICLE 1.0 NAME AND MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION

1.1 This organization shall be known as the Overseas Chinese Association of Vision and Eye Research, hereinafter referred to as OCAVER.

1.2 The mission of OCAVER is to establish a network and platform among overseas Chinese vision and eye researchers, to share their research information and expertise, to promote communications and collaborations between vision and ophthalmic researchers in China and in the rest of the world.

1.3 OCAVER is a non-profit and independent organization and closely cooperates with ARVO and the Chinese Ophthalmological Society.

 

ARTICLE 2.0 MEMBERSHIP

2.1 ELIGIBILITY Members shall be individuals of Chinese descendents residing outside of China, and with particular competence or interest in the field of ophthalmic investigation and vision research.

2.2 CLASSES OF MEMBERSHIP There shall be the following classes of membership in OCAVER: Regular Members, and Honorary Members.

2.3 REGULAR MEMBERS Regular membership shall be restricted to individuals demonstrating a serious interest in or making significant contributions to visual science. This may be evidenced by: (a) scientific publications; (b) attendance at ophthalmological or visual science meetings; (c) direct involvement in vision-related research; or (d) other similar activity satisfactory to the Board of Trustees.

2.4 HONORARY MEMBERS A person who has singularly aided the progress of research in vision and ophthalmology may become an Honorary Member when recommended thereto by the Board of Trustees at any meeting of OCAVER.

2.5 FEES, DUES AND ASSESSMENTS

There is no membership fee required currently, although donations are welcome and encouraged. However, depending on the future situations, it is solely at the discretion of the Board of Trustees to establish membership fees.

 

 

ARTICLE 3.0 MEETINGS

3.1 ANNUAL MEETINGS  A Meeting of Board of Trustees and all members of OCAVER shall be held at the place and on the date designated by the Board of Trustees. Currently, the annual Board meetings will be during the ARVO annual meetings. The primary purpose of the Annual Meeting of OCAVER shall be to provide forums for networking and exchange of expertise among its members and ARVO attendees from China.

3.2 SPECIAL MEETINGS Special meetings of Members of OCAVER may be called by the Board of Trustees for the times and places that it may designate.

ARTICLE 5.0 MANAGEMENT

The general management of the affairs of OCAVER shall be vested in the Chairman, or his/her designee(s), and the Board of Trustees.
